NEWHALLVILLE POLICE DISTRICT PREPARES FOR BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT

(7/31/2008) Donations Sought To Supply 100 Kids with Backpacks and School Supplies

NEW HAVEN- For a second year in a row, Lt. Rebecca Sweeney Burns, District Manager for the Newhallville section of the City, will be hosting a back-to-school celebration with a goal of outfitting children with the supplies they need to return to the classroom in September. Last year, 50 students in the district attended this event and received bookbags full of all the school supply essentials.

This year, Sweeney Burns hopes to make these materials available for 100 children and as a result she is asking for public donations of paper, notebooks, book bags, pencils, pens, sharpeners, erasers, rulers, crayons, tissues and other supplies. Donations should be dropped off at the Newhallville Police Substation located at 596 Winchester Avenue no later than August 22. The Back to School Celebration, where students will receive their supplies, will take place on the afternoon of August 22 at the Substation.
